LOT 809 PERSONAL SPORTS JACKET IN BLACK HORSE LEATHER

The Personal Sports Jacket is based on a 1930's sports jacket acquired from a dealer in New York. The original piece features rare details such as removable lining buttons and adjustable cuff buttons that allow the cuffs to be folded back—specifications seldom seen in ready-made garments of the era. According to the dealer, high-priced items such as leather jackets were often tailored to individual requests at the time, and this jacket is almost certainly a personal-order piece, made to meet the specific needs of its original owner.

The jacket is crafted from a very thin horsehide suede, a material valued for its dense fiber structure and exceptional durability. Compared to cowhide suede, horsehide suede is firmer and more resilient, while still retaining a fine, velvety surface. With wear, the nap gradually compresses and polishes, revealing subtle tonal depth and a unique patina that reflects the passage of time. This evolving texture is a defining characteristic of horsehide suede, offering both strength and refined aging uncommon in other suede leathers.
