The Type 900 Jacket was designed in 2009, based on research into vintage British Rail workwear and uniform garments, with further references to chore coats and early American jeans jackets. The shoulder seam is slipped down to the front of the jacket, and an outer chest map pocket and an inner chest conductor’s pocket (inspired by the swinging pocket bags of train conductors’ uniforms) are sewn into the chest seam on either side. The jacket is fastened at the front with removable solid cast brass buttons, and tightened at the back with solid cast brass D rings.
Tender’s 16oz blue-line selvage denim is custom-woven in Japan, then shipped to the UK loomstate. Ring-spun unbleached American cotton is rope dyed with 25 dips of pure indigo, with no back tinting or sulphur, giving an exceptionally dark blue-black fabric which fades beautifully with wear, and forms an excellent base for other natural and historical overdyes. The yarn is heavily starched during the weaving process, so it arrives quite stiff and will soften considerably as it ages. Because it has not been pre-skewed, the yarn unwinds with washing, causing the clothing to twist and shape to the body.
Tender’s designer William Kroll puts a lot of care into their research, design, manufacture, and wear. Just as a gardener tends to a vegetable patch, or a shepherd is the tender to a flock of sheep, Tender has the hope that it's customers will live with their products, wearing them hard, but respecting their provenance and the stories they have to tell. The British-made clothes and accessories are manufactured in small factories, ateliers, and homes around the country, exploring new approaches to traditional weaving, making, tanning, and dyeing.

Shipping & Returns
For most in stock, full priced items, you may return your purchase for a refund, exchange or store credit if we receive the item back in the store within 7 days of delivery. You must request a return authorization within 4 days of delivery. We require that you pay for the return shipping and the shipping fee for the exchanged item.
Shop Boswell uses UPS ground for a $12 flat fee for standard items and $18 for hats and heavier items on orders under $300. If the item is large or unusually heavy, we will reach out to the customer for an additional shipping fee, even if the purchase was over $300.
