PATCHWORKED DRESS

PATCHWORKED DRESS

LA RÉUNION

Regular price $435.00 Sale

La Réunion dresses are inspired by the Namibian women of the Herero tribe. The Patchwork Dress is a symbol of resilience and strength. The tribe survived attempted genocide in the 19th century and their dresses vibrantly tell their story. La Réunion Patchwork Dresses are art pieces meant to empower, embolden, and inspire all while honoring Africa.

The fabric the dresses are composed of is a combination of vintage pieces sourced from Oklahoma to Maine to NY, deadstock fabric from NY cutting rooms, as well as scraps and remnants collected inside the NY Garment District cutting rooms.

Please note that these dresses are one of a kind. We've shown an example of the size medium and the size small on Melissa. She is 5'7" and typically wears a size 2 dress or 26 pants.

Sarah Nsikak is a Nigerian-American living in Brooklyn, New York. Her love of textiles led her to working in the fashion industry for several years after completing a Masters Degree in Art Therapy. The exorbitant amount of waste generated in the fashion industry inspired a re-routing back to her art practice. These hand quilted pieces are made exclusively using recycled material sourced from fashion designers based in New York. Special textiles are also sourced through vintage stores and estate sales.
